In the gradient options at the top of your workspace, click on the downward-pointing arrow to the right of the gradient preview, and click on the gradient you wish to use. I’m using the Spectrum gradient from the CS1 default gradient set. Position your mouse cursor over your canvas and you will see that the cursor has turned into a plus sign. Hold down the Shift key while dragging your cursor vertically down the white rectangle.
